What are Scouts?
The Scout section is the third of the four sections making up the Scout Group. Scout are boys and girls aged between 10 and 14 years who want to make friends and develop their widening interests in ways that are both educational and fun. Scouts meet as a Troop under the guidance of trained adult Leaders. Each troop consists of several patrols - small units of 6 or so Scouts, one of whom is a Patrol Leader who shares with the adult Leaders the responsibility for maintaining the standards and training of the Patrol. The Patrol system gives Scouts the chance to show responsibility and initiative.
What do we do?
Scout activities are about action and involvement and mean more than just camping. Hiking, rock-climbing, abseiling, canoeing, pioneering, orienteering, photography - the list is endless. Scouts are also given the opportunity to learn skills in survival, cooking and First Aid. A progressive scheme of training leads to awards. In addition, Scouts are given the opportunity to undertake the Duke of Edinburghs Award. Activities aim to encourage responsibility, self-reliance, the acquisition of special skills and an appreciation of the world in which we live. The importance of teamwork is emphasised in games which are co-operative rather than competitive.
What do we wear ?
Scouts wear clothing which is appropriate to the activity being undertaken, with particular attention being given to safety gear. For more formal occasions, Scout uniform consists of a dark green shirt with a Group neckerchief and woggle. Blue Cargo pants complete the uniform. A Group “T Shirt” is available for activities. |
